A born entertainer with a burning desire to play music to people around the world, Sam Divine’senigmatic sets are an effortless schooling in pure, unadulterated house. From her early days asthe sole member of the Defected streetteam in Ibiza to fronting their radio show and nowheadlining the world’s biggest clubs and festivals, The First Lady of Defected, has become anintrinsic part of the UK house music scene.
The seeds of Sam’s DJ career can be traced back to apair of beltdrive turntables and a battered Numark mixer set up in her Mum’s shed; a pirateradio show broadcast from her bedroom using‘borrowed’equipment from the local college,MSN Messenger and time spent expanding her musical knowledge working at Spin Central inher home town of Weston-super-Mare and Chemical Records in Bristol.A chance encounter with then Defected Radio host, Aaron Ross, in Notting Hill in theearly 00s,led Sam to Ibiza where she quickly became an integral figure in the West End.
Since then she’splayed at some of the island’s biggest clubs year upon year, holding down residencies at Pacha,Mambo, Amnesia, Eden and Ushuaïa, all the while sharing space with some of the greatestnames in dance music, including Frankie Knuckles, Master’s At Work,MK, DJ Spen, KiNK, SandyRivera and Dennis Ferrer to name a few.Sam launched her own highly successful imprint, DVINE Sounds, in 2015. To date, the label hasseen almost 100 releases, helping to propel talented up and coming artists into the spotlight.
On top of touring globallyandplaying festivals worldwide,Samcontinues toput a focus ongiving back, raising over £50,000 for Breast Cancer Research through her charity D-Vitaandmentoring up and coming female artists via her association to Lady In The House.Like all others,the pandemic ground all touring toa halt but it also inspired Sam to spend more time in thestudio and 2021 also brought new music in a collaboration with Australian DJ and producer,Kormak, as well as a new EP on her own label.Since then she has showed no signs of slowing down with 45+week touring schedulesineachof2022& 2023, while the fruits of those studio labors manifested in a frequent releaseschedule, that featured collaborations with Josh Barry (Take My Hand), Hayley May (Face In TheCrowd) and others.
Looking ahead to 2024, Sam already has confirmed releases with HannahWants & Jem Cooke, another collaboration with Josh Barry, remixes for Dennis Ferrer & InnerCity and confirmed DVINE Sounds events for Miami Music Week, Hideout Festival (Croatia), OneOut Festival (London)and Defected boat parties in Croatia & Malta, all the while continuing herweekly FM radio show on Kiss UK and Defected.
