DJing and selecting is in Melvo Baptiste’s blood. An established broadcaster, tastemaker and labelhead, West London born Melvo hasshared his musical DNA of soul, rare groove, funk, discoandhousewith enthusiasts aroundthe world, while making connections with contemporary artists onthe peripheries of these genres.
Founding his label The Remedy Project in 2021,an imprint demonstrating his dedication to discovering new talent and developing forward-thinking, genre-bending and ambitious musicians, itcontinues to go from strength-to-strength two years on.
With the label’s founding principles to off era home and platform to breaking talent and established acts alike that share the label’s core values,artists such as Kaidi Tatham, T.Williams, Makèz, dego, Close Counters, Atjazz and Hadiya George have all released with Melvo.
Moving into the live events space in 2023, The Remedy Project hosted its
debut event at East London’s The Pickle Factory, consolidating its distinct sonic aesthetic into a sold-out evening curated by Melvo.
As a selector, Melvo has navigated the path from resident to headline DJ,
with a recent string of all-night-long sets at venues like London’s beloved Night Tales Loft and independent culture hub Lost Horizons in Bristol.
With his organic knowledge and passion for rare groove, golden era soul and
disco as well as classic house and contemporary soulfulhouse Melvo’s reputation as the ultimategood-timeselector has also seen recent gigs at Printworks, the Warehouse Project,Hï Ibiza and House of Yes NYC.
As summer 2023 approaches, Melvo with play debut sets at
Glastonbury, Parklife and KOKO as well as curate his own nightat Night Tales.
Born into a family of dancers, record collectors and music enthusiasts, Melvo’s musical upbringing was a strict diet of soul, rare groove, funk and disco.
Inspired by visiting his uncle Norman Jay’s Sunday night BBC Radio London show, Melvo picked up DJing organically and found himself tappinginto the family vocation. When Mi-Soul was founded, Melvo was one of the first to be signed up forhis own weekly show and presented on Saturday mornings from 2012 until 2018.
As well as presenting Glitterbox’s weekly radio show, which is syndicated on over 60 stations globally andregularly frequents iTunes UK’s #1 spot for podcasts, Melvo’s broadcasting abilities have seen himtake to the airwaves for Rinse FM, BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 1 and his own The Remedy Project show.In 2020 Melvo released his debut single on the label‘Bad Company’featuring Phebe Edwards, whichwas supported by legends of the game like Louie Vega, Dave Lee and Horse Meat Disco. A turningpoint in Melvo’s career as a musician, his second single‘Gonna Be Alright’featuring Jamie 3:26 andAnnette Bowen was the powerful follow-up, securing plays on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music and BBCRadio 2, while soaring to #1 of the Traxsource chart.With more original music due to be released in2023, Melvo continues to evolve as a producer.
